Yes this season features of crossover with 24, starting at the end of Season 2 of that series. After that, it diverges into its own alternate timeline, just like Smallville and Stargate.
Five years have passed since the end of Season Four. Alex went off to Atlantis and decided to study the ways of the Ancients, given all that happened last season. Lexa's company gets off the ground, and Astarte International has its IPO to some moderate success. Lexa stepped back from Slaying to become a full-time CEO. Kei handles the Slaying duties now. Forelli gets promoted to the President's advisor on Supernatural Affairs, while Matt takes over as the Head of Operations for DSA, Seattle. David Palmer has been elected President just over a year ago, and former President Henry Hayes volunteered to accept a position as Secretary of Defense till Palmer gets a handle on the Stargate Program and its ramifications.
Dahlia, Dante, and Arianna all got restored to life. The spell returned life to their bodies without cleansing it of the power that gave them their abilities, so Dante and Ari became Dhampyrs, and Dahlia kept some of her strength and speed but lost much of her ability to take damage. Dahlia and Tamara moved in together, and are married in all but name. Tamara left DSA and took an offer from Lexa to be her VP of Operations. The season opens with Palmer having just succumbed to some kind of biological attack, after successfully overseeing a nuclear threat the previous day.
5.01 & 5.02 - The End is Seriously Nigh
Mages worldwide are hit with explosive death traps. Dawn and Alex narrowly avoid being killed, and Blaire almost doesn’t and winds up in the hospital. The gang coordinates with CTU LA on the Palmer hit. The disease attacking Palmer is revealed to be some kind of mystical plague designed to release their old friend Nergal, Lord of Decay upon the Earth. Only the blood of the person who infected them can act as a cure. They manage to identify the assassin known as “Mandy” as Palmer’s assailant. A tip from Marcus Donovan of Chicago alerts CTU to the fact that “Mandy” is in fact a vampire of Dracula’s lineage, known as Victoria Hargrove. With his help, they set up a sting to catch her. This backfires, and winds up with Lexa and Dante as captives. When informed of the disease’s true nature, the vampire gets pissed and offers up her blood and the hostages in exchange for safe passage. With her blood, Palmer is cured and Trepkos, head of DSA is identified as one of the main conspirators. He escapes, but is later found dead in NYC.
5.03 - Apocalypse, Again?!
Blair recovers but realizes she lost her innate gift for magic; the Watchers are hit while in hiding; Kei and Alex begin having nightmares of a darkness consuming the Earth; Dawn can feel that the magic of earth is… twisting; Giles is dead, as are any number of new Slayers; Marie-Christine’s status is unknown; some are captured and brainwashed by de Rais; investigation uncovers link behind assassination orders to one Vladimir Dorevsky. Capturing and interrogating Dorevsky gives them the location of their next major target, the vampire haven of Prague. The gang pursues and captures the exceedingly well-equipped team of assassins. Interrogation reveals that they are human supremacists, calling themselves the Zionists, bent on ridding the world of the supernatural.
5.04 - Chaos Rising
When word of this is leaked out about the cause of the recent chaos, demons, lycanthropes, and others begin protesting. Soon thereafter, a spell rips across the Earth, re-ensouling all vampires. While beneficial, the other supernaturals see this as a prelude to when they will all be “cured’ or “neutered” for the safety of humanity. Attacks and bombings hit DSA and government offices. A mysterious hooded demagogue calling himself Saetan (aka the Adversary) announces the formation of the Daemon League, in response to these attacks, and claims responsibility for the attacks. Serina is being held without authorization by the UN. Believing her to be in danger via Matt, the gang breaks into a Geneva facility and effects her escape. In the process, Kei suddenly finds a bracelet on her arm that seems to grant her special mystical abilities. Jessica shows up on their doorstep, much to Alex’s consternation. Further investigation reveals that the UN team has gone AWOL.
5.05 - Death Is But a Door...
A death-god-worshipping-coven working for mysterious master has Matt turned into his worst incarnation. He goes on a spree, and tries to plan a bioweapon attack to plot the way for his dark ascension. The gang gets assistance from Kenneth Irons. Kei learns about the bracelet that’s bonded to her, called the Witchblade. Lexa & Dahlia stop Matt’s bio-weapon while Dante and Kei take out the coven. The mastermind is arrested, and he explains he had been hired to do all this for an anonymous contractor. Matt is restored but is suddenly assassinated by a mysterious cyborg woman.
5.06 - Even Death May Die
The gang learns of Matt’s death, and is traumatized, Dawn especially, who feels him die via their soulbond and falls into a coma. Alex is promoted to Acting DSA Director by order of the President. The cyborg attacks DSA headquarters in Seattle, apparently after the rest of the cast, though "her" primary target does seem to be Nathanael and Dawn now. Keim with a little assist from Dahlia, manages to destroy the cyborg before anyone else dies.
5.07 - Graveside Melancholy
Matt’s funeral is held with full military honors in Arlington (now that his long life-span and past identities didn't need to be a secret, his former military background could be revealed and thus the honors.) Danika revealed to be possessing Lana Lang who shows up at the funeral to pay her respects. Alex strikes a deal with “Dorian Grey” to have her cloned so her spirit can take on a new body. Dawn wakes up from her coma and goes on a bloody rampage of green flame across the country and eventually attacks DC seeking “the adversary." She suddenly snaps out of it, but loses major power-up. She has no recall of what set her off.
5.08 - Oh, Mandy...
Nina Meyers is identified as a possible link to the Daemon League. Surveillance places her as operating out of Portland. DSA captures her and with a little assist from Jack Bauer of CTU LA, and they get her to admit that she acted as a go-between between Daemon League and “Mandy” aka Victoria Hargrove. Believing she’s been hired to assassinate the President, Dawn crafts an illusion to allow Dante to double him for a time. Victoria makes her move, but it seems she’s out to turn Palmer, not kill him. The gang thwarts her plan, and she escapes via mist-form, much to Alex’ annoyance.
5.09 - Unwanted Family Visit:
An old protégé of Lexa’s dad returns to complete the family hereditary rituals and kidnaps Jessie to fuel them. The team gets assistance from former Aussie SAS member who helps them track down the accomplices in the kidnapping. One of them turns out to be a woman descended from the Borgia line of Witchblade wielders. She takes the blade from Kei, but Lexa shows her who her mommy is. Lexa and Dahlia rescue Jessie and slice-n-dice Nicholas Townsend. Dahlia decides to finish wiping out the rest of the family line, and makes it her own personal side quest for the rest of the season..
5.10 - The Black Cat:
A bulletin comes over Interpol that Alex's old flame, Jessica McCormick, has been arrested. Apparently, she's been moonlighting as an international jewel thief since she went to Oxford for college. To get her released, the DSA has to take down a vampire mafia lord in Marseilles named Renauld. While staking him out, Brigette De Rais is revealed as a major Daemon League leader, and she deals with Renauld. Gang gets captured but effects escape. Renauld gives up the arms shipment he was handling for the Daemon League as well as another Townsend family member for Dahlia to whack.
5.11 - First Break:
DSA tags and tracks the shipment from Calais to LA, where a small war breaks out between Zionists and Daemon League, as the shipment is offloaded. The Zionists capture shipment, and DSA tracks them instead. Bushwacking them at their local base of operations, the gang captures Josef, one of the members of the renegade UN team, after intense car chase. He gives up little in interrogation other than rest of the UN Wolfpack has joined the Zionists.
5.12 - Need For Speed:
A new team of street racers from California move up the coast, and the gang meets Mia Townsend. Apparently, she's from the Italian branch of the family, who fled them to the States when they tried to use her as some kind of sacrifice. A rash of thefts using street modded imports gets their attention, and Mia winds up admitting she's in with an unsavory crowd, who's after some mystical artifact to raise their demonic patron. Turns out Mia is a plant designed to tug at Lexa's heart strings and get into the mansion so they can steal an urn from Alex's collection. The gang stops the ancient enochian demon from rising with a little mystical advice from Josef, in exchange for an easing of his confinement. Mia confesses to having been adopted and not an actual blood relative of the family, though she really was adopted by them and she was almost killed in some ritual sacrifice.. Lexa & Dahlia have no problem with this and she gets a second chance. Alex gets a new toy during his battle with the demon: a collapsable crystalline staff that can enhances his physical prowess and can be used to deflect incoming fire.
5.13 - Worst Nightmare:
The gang confronts their fears made manifest as the Swiss Slayer from the UN team, Inessa Koller, secretly curses Dahlia. Back in her Black Widow days, Dahlia was responsible for her father's death, and the young woman, upon learning the truth thanks to her UN security clearance, wants revenge. VampLexa reappears from the depths of Dahlia's psyche and wreaks havoc across Seattle, nearly killing Tamara again, almost eviscating Alex and Dante, before she eventually figures out that she’s a construct. She then ambushes Alex and enlists his “aid” in rendering her permanently real. Thanks to Dante, Dahlia confronts her issues and breaks the spell before anyone is permanently damaged. Lexa is found with unconscious in the mansion, and the bracelets removed. Apparently, Inessa got what she was really after.
5.14 - The Plot Thickens:
Tamara wakes up with partial amnesia, unable to remember anything after the accident in which she and her husband died over fifteen years ago. LexCorp branches across the US are attacked by the Daemon League, and Lex is nearly killed in an assassination attempt. A kind of Super-Wendigo is seen leading the attack in Seattle, though he's driven off by a young man named Connor. Dawn recognizes him as Angel's son. Apparently he's all grown up and is working as an intern for LexCorp while getting his PhD in bioengineering. That night, Serina gets a power-up from the wolf totem and is now a kind of controlled lycanthrope: she has all the strengths, with only silver for a weakness. Alex and Arianna uncover evidence linking the VP to a massive Zionist conspiracy and begin to make arrangements to have the identied conspirators brought down. Palmer has him arrested and things seem like they should be getting better.
5.15 - Time is Running Out:
A thirty-year-old Nathanael shows up in battered and nearly wrecked version of his father's old time-traveling puddle-jumper. He warns that two very bad events are about to happen and must be stopped. An unknown somone brought about the end of the world sometime in the next few months, after acquiring an artifact from their old friend, Renauld. Gang goes to buy it off him, but find him and his entire vamp/lycan security force massacred. His last words lead them to Brigette De Rais in Northern France, whom they surprise. She gives up nothing other than a few cryptic references, so Alex has her dusted. Nathan says the second event is the assassination of President Palmer and pretty much everyone in the White House by some kind of demon. Getting in gear, the gang arrives in time to thwart a 12 ft tall Wendigo from gutting Palmer, Agent Pierce, and his personal assistant, who's holding the beast back barely via Telekinesis. Agents from DSA New Jersey show up and after a brief chase and a mid-traffic battle royale on Pennsylvania Avenue, the beast is brought down. The personal assistant reveals himself to be Matt, who foresaw his own death and made arrangements with Jack, Jr. and Julia to be brought back. He then went undercover because he saw Palmer dying in every vision and felt he could do more from the shadows than as the head of DSA.
5.16 - Revelations:
The gang rejoices over Matt's return, but its short lived. Matt is contacted by Rayne, their former IT head, who begs asylum in exchange for the truth on who's REALLY calling the shots behind Palmer's back, and she insists it wasn't the VP. The gang heads to Newark to rescue her, but Inessa gets to her first. Still, they manage to save her from the deranged Slayer, and she tells them that former President and current Secretary of Defense Henry Hayes was the one given Trepkos his marching orders. After coordinating an op with CTU, using Hayes' daughter Audrey, they confirm the intel and move to arrest him. When confronted, Hayes shapeshifts into a tall, well-spoken British man who's seemingly invulnerable. He triggers a spell which sends Matt (you'd think a psychic wouldnt fail so many of his Will rolls...) after Palmer, and then escapes via an Asgard transporter. The gang has to stop Matt not once but twice, before Dawn can remove the compulsion. The cast has finally met the real mastermind behind the events of the last 6 months.
5.17 - The Four Horsemen:
Matt, Dawn and the Slayers wake up from a horrible dream where robed figures on horseback ride across the world leaving death and destruction in their wake. Turning on the news, they find reality to be far worse. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalype have risen and ride across the Earth. War is in the Middle East where a nuclear war has finally broken out; Pestilence walks the fields of the Ukraine whithering one of the great bread baskets of the world; Famine moves through China spreading uncurable diseases amongst the largest and most tightly packed nation in the world; and Death slowly makes its way across the midwestern United States, making its way from coast to coat, leaving no plant, animal, or human alive in its wake. To make matters worse, the remnants of the Daemon League follow in its wake, acting as de facto armies. Research tells that killing one only makes the others stronger, so DSA gathers all its allies and assets and prepares for a massive simultaneous strike. Against all odds, the gang stands victorious, but it is a pyrrhic victory as Dawn can see the energy from Death, their leader flow across the sky. A scrying spell reveals the energy has been pulled beneath Alex's old ancestral manor in Grizzly Peak.
5.18 - Armageddon Squared, Part One:
Not waiting to resupply, the gang reunites and heads down to Grizzly Peak. There they find Alex's old digs surrounded by Wendigo, who die swiftly at the hands of the forces arrayed against them. Proceeding down into the basement into the caverns that once ran beneath the devastated city, they find a section of them rebuilt and a temple of black obsidian waiting. They arrive moments too late, as Holt completes his Dark Ascension and becomes Lucifer, the Morning Star, leader of the Great Rebellion. Matters go from bad to worse, when Lexa is suddenly wracked with pain and transforms into a pale, luminscent nude woman with long black hair with stars for eyes. The gang tries to attack, and Dante and Arianna, dhampyrs that they are, try to feed on her, thinking to replicate Angels' victory against Hamilton. Instead their eyes turn black, and they once again become vampires, who look upon this new Lexa with love and loyalty. The rest of the gang goes on the offensive but instead find themselves quickly rebuffed, and the two leave, barely paying them any heed. A search of the temple locates the missing John Constantine, who explains Stuart Holt had captured him and been using him as an unwilling focus for the energies he had acquired. He also knows their plan.
Lucifer needs to open a gateway to the higher planes, and to do that he needs the Spear of Destiny which he can then use to trigger some hideous blood ritual that will open a gateway from some holy site. But thats just the tip of the iceberg. He isn't working alone. The Fallen Host isn't enough to retake heaven and he knows that. So Lou has made a deal with Lilith, the mother of monsters in Hebrew and Sumerian lore. He helped bring her into this world along with him. She will free her children, slumbering beneath the earth, trapped in ancient holy prisons, and will lend these powerful True Demons to his cause. In return, she gets to keep Earth and remake it as she sees fit. Apparently, Lilith was the dark power called upon to create the Slayer line, and Lexa's repeated contact with the Source of the Slayer's Power and the boosts its given to her over the years has prepared her to become the perfect vessel for Lilith's essence.
John tells them Lilith could only be headed for the Vatican; with Jerusalem destroyed, its vaults have the largest concentration of artifacts and tomes that could lead her to free her lost children. The gang returns to Seattle to reorganize and regroup. Matt has the Spear relocated from DSA Newark to Clark's arctic fortress for safe-keeping. Their primary target becomes Lilith. Dawn and Alex can't find a way to simply expel Lilith, but John comes up with a salve that once splashed on her, should disrupt the connection between her spirit and the body, weaking her, enough to fight her, and possibly enough to exorcise her if they get the opportunity. Jack, Jr. shows up with a tel'tac and offers them a ride. Arrving in Rome, they find the city in ruins and what appears to be a small army of Slayers rampaging through the Holy See. The group splits into two, with those like Kei and Alex, who wield holy weapons, go after Lilith, while the rest try and clean up her army of enthralled Slayers.
The gang are first confronted by the enthralled Dante, Arianna, and Faith whom they try to take down non-lethally. Dante eventually shakes free of Lilith's control, and he helps put down the two ladies. They arrive at the vault to find her ransacking it like a clutttered closet. She barely acknowledges the others at first, and fights them using the Umbra Inlucesco blades that Lexa was wearing she was taken over. John manages to hit her with the salve and the dark goddess suddenly finds herself unable to use her greater powers. He then takes up one of the scattered artifacts on the floor, and with Dawn's help, they manage to exorcise Lilith while Alex, Dahlia, Kei, and Ian Nottingham keep her occupied. Free of her control, Lexa returns to the normal, as do Arianna and the other Slayers. One down, two to go.
5.19 - Armageddon Squared, Part Two:
The gang makes arrangements with whats left of the UN to take the two dozen or so surviving Slayers somewhere relatively safe. Matt gets a vision of Lucifer preparing to sacrifice an unseen figure on the altar of a huge temple-like structure that seems to be a mosque, and yet has cathedral-like architecture to it. Alex figures it can only be the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, and the gang heads there post-haste. Once there, they find the sky blood-red and what appears to be armies of angels battling it out over the sky. Landing in front of the mosque, the only building left standing at this juncture, they storm in to find Lucifer making the final preparations to open his gateway. The person on the altar is none other than John Constantine. The John with them smiles and transforms into a black-winged figure wielding a sword of black flame.
Lucifer stops and thanks them for dispatching with Lilith; as useful as her children would have been, she would have been more trouble in the end than she was worth. Instead she served her purpose by misdirecting the gang and wreaking havoc across the globe while he did his thing. No more words are needed as the gang splits their forces to deal with the Devil and his minion. Lucifer takes on the form of a beautiful blonde winged figure and wields the Spear of Destiny against the others. The battle rages, and eventually Ian falls to the spear, his armor transforming back into a ring and clattering to the floor. Kei and the Witchblade deal him a grievous blow, and Lou sheds his form and becomes this gigantic thing that no one can quite seem to comprehend what it looks like. Everyone knows they are about to die, when suddenly Dawn becomes wreathed in green flame much as she did some months ago. She attacks Lucifer directly, and though she falls, barely alive, the Morningstar suddenly finds himself trapped in his "angelic" form, unable to unleash full power agains the gang. Matt, Kei, and Lexa eventually wear down the dark lord, though they themselves are close to falling. Alex uses them to slip in unnoticed and is about to deliver a killing blow, the Lucifer abandons his devoted worshipper. Better to be imprisoned back in Hell to plot anew than die on this plane and cease to exist.
Meanwhile in Paris, two old friends fight a duel on the roofs near the river Siene. The Immortal Methos wins more through sheer tenacity and will to survive than swordsmanship and he undergoes an Ascension of his own. He uses his momentary existence on both planes to wipe clean much of the death and damage caused the the Four Horsemen, though all the world remember the terrible events of the past few days. The gang is called to Washington, where President Palmer wants a full debriefing on all that happened.
5.20 - Threads:
The gang tells Palmer all that happened, and how the governments had been manipulated by Holt, all to bring about Armageddon. Pleased that the world's destruction has been averted, Palmer declares them all world saviors, and in a pres conference, rewards them all the Congressional Medal of Honor, normal prerequisites be damned. The audience is then treated to flashes of what is to come. Palmer pushes for the formation of a world government to replace the UN, and given all thats happened, it meets relatively little resistance. Earth's offworld programs accelerate as does their technological base. With Palmer's endorsement, Matt Deveraux runs from President and wins as an Independent, not once but twice. The second time, Lex Luthor is his running mate, and the two of them, having funded the campaigns themselves, are beholden to no special interest groups. They revamp the social and economic infrastructure of the US, and Palmer takes many of their ideas and uses them in his own administration.
Lexa's company, Astarte International goes global. Her medical divisions find a cure for AIDS, and distributes it at a loss, which lets her stock soar over the long-term. Deveraux and Luthor lighten some of the morality laws, allowing her to legally pursue options in cleaning up and legitimizing the so-called "sex trade." The woman most of the corporate world had dubbed the "porno queen" was suddenly a corporate success and climbing the Fortune 500.
Alex finally manages to hit it off with one Lana Lang, who had broken up with her boyfriend Clark earlier that year. Their relationship develops over time, and his pet project, a light cruiser, designed along the lines of the Corellian Corvette from Star Wars, is picked up for production by the UNE government. He takes the first ship, recruits a crew, and he and Lana do a little intergalactic tour. Eventually they get married and settle on Atlantis.
Ke's band, Temptation, finds new success as her celebrity status as world savior boosts record and ticket sales. She encourages love and understanding and tolerance in her music, coupled with powerful vocals and haunting music. Dante's band stays hard metal, but sings about standing up and fighting for what's right, even when others tell you its wrong. Both bands are incredibly successful with the younger generation, who grows up hero-worshipping them.
Dahlia and Tamara finally get married once same-sex marriages are legalized. Surprisngly, Arianna and Connor hit it off and while they never get full-on married, their relationship lasts the next several years. Mia stays, finishes college and gets her medical degree. She goes to work for Astarte, Int medical researh division and is helping work on its latest project: a universal cure for cancer. Serina also goes to work for Astarte, helping Lexa head up her adult division. She makes ending the cruelty and de facto slavery that pervades many aspects of the industry her life's mission.
This cast's adventures are over, but Jesse and Nathan are reaching the age their parents once were when they began their lifestyle. Their own travails and triumps would become as legendary as their parents, but thats a chronicle for another time.
